Any person who fells trees for the purpose of sale ought to have a valid license (Section 4 FRTU Act). Currently, there are two (2) types of licences issued by Forestry Department. Records have shown that the issuance of milling licences for last quarter is on the rise compare to felling licences.
Licence Procedures (Acquisition Process)
The Licence procedures or acquisition process for a felling licence on registered land & customary lands slightly differs.
- For Customary land, the procedure is to undergo a Timber Rights acquisition process and then to Licence acquisition process prior to the granting of a felling licence.
- As for a Registered land, the process is straight forward. That is, to undergo a Licence Acquisition process only. Exception is the need to submit a certified copy of the land registration (title) and the Grant of Profit.
